Watches made by well known watch makers such
as, Waltham, Hamilton, Illionois, Bucherer, Patek
Phileppe, Tissot, IOCO, etc, are often judged by how
many jewels they have. Jewels are small gemstones,
which are inserted into areas of watch movement
which receive high levels f motion, in order to
prevent wear of parts, and to help with the watch
running smoothly. A lack of jewels means that metal
parts are rubbing directly against other metal parts,
and will cause wear over time.
