History Of I.O.C.O watch company: ISADOR, son of MORITZ, who emigrated to America c.1886 and founded I.O.C.O.--The ISADOR OLLENDORFF CORP., importers and manufacturers of quality watches. Max followed Isador to America shortly afterwards. The sons of Isador----Herbert, Walter, and Morton succeeded their father in the management of the IOCO watch company, while Julian, son of Max made a name for himself as a cartoonist on the New York Times. MARCUS OLLENDORFF MARCUS was born in Rawicz in 1784 and went to Pleschen, where he owned the Hotel Prinz Heinrich von Prussien. Pleschen, Polish Pleszewo, in Hebrew document; Poda?,has no long history. Jews have been reported there in the 16th. century, but there is no confirmation of this, on the contrary it is rather unlikely due to the resistance of the Polish Guilds. It is not until the beginning of the 19th. century that we find a few Jews in the suburb of Malinie. The cemetery dates back to 1817 and the organized Jewish community to the year 1821, when registers commenced. The synagogue was erected in 1830. At that time there were 100 Jewish families in Pleschen and the surrounding villages, and in the year 1835 only 35 Jews were qualified to receive Prussian citizenship. The community had increased by then to 757, of which 644 lived in the town. Then the decline set in. By 1900 the Jewish population had decreased to 570, by 1911 to 330, after World War 1 the community had disappeared completely. Among the first settlers in Pleschen are the LEWCZYK's. JOSEPH LEWCZYK, to whose grandson *AMALIE* OLLENDORFF was married, was born in Pleschen in 1777 according to a document in the archives of the Pleschen Jewish Community. Most of the information is from the Gesamtarchiv der Deutschen Juden in Berlin and additional from his granddaughter *AMALIE LEWCZYK in Sprottau, Germany. MARCUS had five children, **LENCHEN (BERTA) born 1789, PHILIPINE (PAULINE) born 1813, ARON born 1817, MORITZ born 1819 and PINCUS born 1824. *AMALIE LEWCZYK knew nothing of a PINCUS, who is mentioned in the records of the Gesamtarchiv in Berlin, but she knows of a LOIS instead. It is possible that they are the same, as she also mentioned LENCHEN, who would be BERTA, and PHILIPINA, who would be PAULINE of the Gesamtarchiv records. LOUIS had two sons ALBERT and MAX. ARON, who died in Chicago, had two daughters. Of the descendants of BERTA, PHILIPINE, and PINCUS, nothing is known. It is possible that LOUIS is the same LEO (LOUIS) who is mentioned as a son of MORITZ. MORITZ, according to *AMALIE LEWCZYK, had five children; LEO, MARCUS. who went to America after MAX had died there soon after, *AMALIE, who married a LEWCZYK and remained in Germany (prottau), ISADOR, who emigrated to U.S.A. in 1886 and MAX, who followed him shortly afterwards. So all the descendants with the name OLLENDORFF are to be found in America. One of them is JULIAN, the well known cartoonist of the New York Times, another MORTON, who founded the famous OLLENDORFF WATCH INC. All the above information by Alfred Julius Bruck. *AMALIE was the daughter of Moritz, son of Marcus. **There seems to be some confusion in this entry and it would appear that LENCHEN (BERTHA) is more likely to be the wife of MARCUS having been born only five years after he was born. For the purpose of the family tree I shall enter her as his wife.(Reuben Jamieson)
